KBO Recap: Lotte Giants 11-0 SSG Landers | August 13 Highlights & Scores

Lotte Giants Demolish SSG Landers in Shutout Victory

The Lotte Giants put on a dominant offensive display Wednesday night, overwhelming the SSG Landers 11-0 at Sajik Stadium. Pitcher Rodriguez delivered a complete performance through six innings, allowing just five hits while the Giants’ lineup pounced on starter Takeda early and often. The victory marks a decisive statement from Lotte, who improved to 47-2-57 with the convincing shutout.

SSG’s pitching staff never found its footing. Takeda, saddled with his ninth loss of the season, lasted only five innings while surrendering nine runs on ten hits. The damage came primarily in the third and fourth innings, when Lotte’s bats came alive against the right-hander. What could have been a competitive matchup unraveled quickly, leaving the Landers unable to recover.

Rodriguez proved why he picked up his seventh win of the campaign. The Giants’ starter mixed his pitches effectively, striking out five and walking just one across six scoreless frames. He worked with efficiency, allowing the Giants to establish control early. Behind him, the Lotte bullpen was equally sharp. Park Jeong-min, Lee Min-seok, and Park Se-jin combined for four innings of one-hit, shutout baseball, with six strikeouts between them.

For SSG, the bullpen work became almost academic by the time relievers took over. Lee Gun-wook, Park Si-hu, Seo Jin-yong, and Han Du-sol prevented further damage, but by then the game had already been decided. The Landers managed only one hit against relievers after Takeda exited.

The Giants’ offense was relentless. Ko Seung-min emerged as the night’s most destructive force, belting two home runs while driving in three runs. His back-to-back homers in the fourth and fifth innings off Takeda extended Lotte’s lead considerably. Han Dong-hee added another blast in the seventh—a two-run shot off reliever Park Si-hu—to put the final nail in SSG’s coffin.

Son Seong-bin ignited the onslaught with a crucial go-ahead hit in the third inning. With runners at first and third and no outs, Son’s ground ball to short plated the first run and set the tone for the blowout. Later, he connected on a two-point home run in the fourth, demonstrating the kind of timely hitting that was in abundant supply for the Giants all evening.

Hwang Seong-bin contributed two hits and drove in a run while also stealing a base. His triple in the third extended Lotte’s advantage further. Na Seung-yeop added a hit and an RBI of his own, while Reyes went 2-for-4 without driving in a run but maintaining the pressure throughout the night.

The third inning was the turning point. After Hwang’s stolen base in the first put a runner in motion early, Lotte’s lineup began to click against Takeda. Hwang’s triple made it 1-0, then Son’s groundout scored another. Na’s double in the same inning kept the momentum rolling. When the inning ended, Lotte had built a 3-0 lead and established complete command.

The fourth inning was all about the power display. Han Tae-yang launched a solo shot, then Ko Seung-min’s two-run blast made it 6-0. Another two-bagger by Jeon Ui-san kept the line moving, and Takeda’s day was effectively done despite pitching into the fifth.

SSG’s inability to generate any offensive threat compounded the damage. The Landers managed just five hits across nine innings, never mounting anything resembling a threat against Rodriguez or the relievers. Kim Se-min’s error in the eighth was the only blemish on an otherwise clean Lotte defense.

The shutout loss drops SSG further down the standings, now sitting in ninth place at 44-4-62. Lotte remains in eighth at 47-2-57, though the Giants closed the gap in the loss column with this convincing victory. SSG will need to regroup quickly, while Lotte can take confidence from the balanced performance—dominant pitching paired with opportunistic hitting.

Rodriguez will enter the winner’s circle with his improved record, while Takeda suffered his ninth setback of an increasingly difficult campaign. The Landers’ inability to score a single run represents a damning performance that their front office will surely want to forget quickly. For the Giants, it was simply a night where everything worked, and SSG had no answers.
