Wiz Edge Heroes in Offensive Showcase

The KT Wiz jumped on early opportunities and held off a late Kiwoom Heroes rally to secure a 6-2 victory on Saturday night at Gocheok Sky Dome. It was a game that felt decided by the sixth inning, yet the Heroes refused to go quietly, mounting enough pressure in the final frames to keep their fans engaged until the final out.

KT’s lineup came prepared. Won-jun Choi set the tone with four hits in five at-bats, driving in a pair of runs and setting the table for his teammates throughout the evening. The Wiz struck first in the second inning when an error and some small ball manufacturing put them ahead, and they never surrendered that advantage. By the time the seventh inning rolled around, the game was effectively out of reach.

For Kiwoom, the night represented another step backward in what has been a grueling season. They entered the day in tenth place in the standings, already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. The Heroes managed to plate two runs but couldn’t string together the kind of consecutive at-bats that might have made this competitive beyond the early innings.

Pitching Performance

Logan, the Wiz’s starting pitcher, delivered what the home team needed. The foreign hurler went six innings, allowing six hits and two runs while walking three and striking out four. He wasn’t overpowering—his fastball command wavered at times—but he kept Kiwoom off-balance and limited the damage when the Heroes did make contact. The Heroes’ three-run attempt in the middle innings never materialized, in large part because Logan bore down when traffic appeared on the basepaths.

The Heroes countered with Sung-min Kim, who lasted just two-thirds of an inning before departing with two runs already in. It wasn’t the outing Kim needed. He surrendered back-to-back hits to open the inning, and a couple of aggressive swings from the KT lineup made quick work of his time on the mound. Ji-sung Park came in for relief and couldn’t escape the jam either, giving up three more hits in just a third of an inning.

Things got messy for Kiwoom as the game progressed. Yun-ha Kim had started on the mound for the Heroes and pitched competently through five innings, striking out three and giving up just one run, but the bullpen imploded from there. Dong-hyun Bae managed a scoreless frame, but Park, Won-jong Hyon, and the rest of the relievers surrendered four more runs combined.

KT’s bullpen was stellar by comparison. Min-soo Kim, Yong-ju Jeon, Gyu-min Woo, and closer Young-hyun Park combined to shut out Kiwoom over the final three innings. Park earned the save, though he did issue two walks and threw a wild pitch in the ninth while recording the final four outs.

Offensive Highlights

Won-jun Choi was the story on offense. The KT outfielder collected four hits and finished a double shy of the cycle, working counts and finding gaps throughout the lineup. He was involved in nearly every successful offensive sequence the Wiz engineered.

Hyun-min An contributed a home run in the seventh inning off Park, a solo shot that extended KT’s lead to four runs at a point when the game was slipping away from Kiwoom. It was An’s seventh of the season. He also drove in another run on a double in the first inning, making him perhaps the most impactful bat in a KT uniform for this particular contest.

The Kiwoom offense showed some life in stretches. Chan-hyuk Park went 2-for-3 and Jae-hyun Chu, who drove in a run, also recorded two hits. Gyun-hee Kim managed a hit and an RBI as well, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace. The Heroes left runners on base in critical situations and couldn’t capitalize on their limited opportunities.

Min-hyuk Kim scored for KT on a pinch-hit appearance, and several other Wiz players contributed extra-base hits—doubles by Jin-hyuk Chang, Yeo Dong-wook, and Gyung-min Her kept the lineup moving. KT stole a base through Sang-su Kim in the fourth, showing they were willing to be aggressive on the basepaths.

Key Play

The game’s pivotal moment came in the sixth inning with two outs and runners on first and second. Won-jun Choi laced a line drive through the middle for a single, scoring both runners and effectively sealing the victory. That one swing made it 5-1, and though Kiwoom would scratch out another run later, they were never going to catch up from there. It was a textbook example of a professional hitter doing exactly what the situation demanded.

Standings Impact

This victory keeps KT Wiz firmly entrenched at the top of the Korean Baseball Organization standings with a record of 63-3-41. The Wiz continue to build on their commanding lead as the regular season winds down.

For Kiwoom Heroes, the loss drops them to 40-2-72, cementing their position at the bottom of the standings. With only a handful of games remaining, their season has long since become one of evaluation and preparation for next year. Saturday night was simply another entry in what will be remembered as a difficult campaign.
